PUBG maker Krafton is working on a mobile version of Palworld

This comes mere days after Nintendo and The Pokémon Company filed a lawsuit alleging multiple patent infringements in the game

Tokyo-based Pocketpair has signed a licensing deal with Krafton, the Seongnam, South Korea-based publisher of PUBG, to bring its popular Palworld game to mobile.

Few details were confirmed in the press release, which is written in Korean, but the companies note their intent to “faithfully reinterpret” Palworld for mobile devices. Given that phrasing, it seems that at least some changes will have to be made to translate the experience, which mixes Pokémon-style monster-taming with survival mechanics.

All around, it’s quite an interesting time for Palworld. After a massive launch on Xbox consoles and PC in January, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company sued Pocketpair last month, alleging that it was guilty of “multiple” patent infringements with Palworld. Pocketpair responded by denying wrongdoing and claiming it wasn’t aware of any patent infringements while noting its intention to defend itself in court.

Following the launch of this legal battle, Palworld launched on PS5 in most global markets, besides Japan. Pocketpair didn’t give a reason for the lack of a Japanese release, but the timing – mere days after the filing of the lawsuit – is certainly no coincidence.

It remains to be seen what will come out of the lawsuit.
