On Wednesday the U17 national team (born in 2005) will start the EURO-Quali adventure. The first qualifying round for the UEFA U17 EURO 2022 in Israel will be played in the form of a mini-tournament in Traiskirchen and Lindabrunn.

At the beginning, team boss Oliver Lederer selects his senior colleagues from Kosovo in the Sports & Leisure Center in Traiskirchen. Kick-off is at 6:30 p.m., tickets are available at the box office for 5 euros. In addition, the encounter will be shown live on ÖFB TV.

Last week, Lederer gathered his boys at the Lindabrunn Sports School so that the team was ideally suited to the upcoming tasks to prepare: “The boys are highly motivated, we are all really looking forward to the next three games,” said the team boss and lost twice 0: 1 in Denmark. The team boss was able to gather important insights: “We have hopefully learned the right lessons and are trying to build on them. Now we have to do things in the three qualifying games so that we can leave the field as the winner. “

Balanced group

The other opponents for the ÖFB-Talents born in 2005 are respectively in Traiskirchen the Faroe Islands (October 9th, 6:30 pm) and Slovenia (October 12th, 3:30 pm).

“With Kosovo we have an opponent from pot four who is absolutely not in pot four according to the strength of the game. Slovenia is a team that is technically always very good anyway, that is absolutely on par with us and then with the Faroe Islands a very unpredictable opponent who brings a lot of physique. Three very different opponents, that of course makes it a bit complicated, “says Lederer.

The goal for him and his team is still clear: promotion to the elite round. To do this, place one or two must be achieved. The home advantage in Traiskirchen should also help: “Of course we have the home advantage. It’s the immediate support from family and friends. We are of course aware of the difficulties in this group. But we are well prepared and will start the three games full of energy and will also try to win all three, that is our claim, “the team boss gives the route.

U19 national team also in qualifying

In Györ, Hungary, the U19 national team (born 2003) will start their journey in the EURO qualifying on Wednesday. Team boss Martin Scherb’s selection will meet Estonia at 3:30 p.m. in the Alcufer Stadium. ÖFB TV is also broadcasting this encounter live.

Team boss Scherb is satisfied with the days so far: “We received a very warm welcome in Hungary, both in the hotel and optimal conditions at the training ground. The boys are full of them, at the moment there is still a lot of anticipation, but you can see in the duels in training and in the analyzes that everyone who is in the squad knows exactly what Wednesday is about. “

In addition to the duel with Estonia, the games against Belarus (October 9th, 3:30 p.m.) and against hosts Hungary (October 12, 3:00 p.m.) are waiting in Györ.

The U19 team has also formulated promotion to the elite round as a clear goal. As with the U17s, you need first or second place at the tournament in Hungary. A successful start against the supposed underdog from Estonia is also important.

“It is an empty phrase, but everyone knows that the so-called little ones in football are no longer really there gives. We saw the last games of the Estonians and of course analyzed them. They have really talented players. But if we bring our performance potential to the field, then we are definitely the favorites – and we want to take on this role, ”said Scherb.
