Richie Faulkner’s first statement after major heart surgery a few days ago is shocking. The Judas Priest guitarist is recovering and for the first time revealed details about what happened to him during the Louder Than Life Festival.
As he said, while playing the Painkiller that closed the band’s appearance, his thoracic aorta broke, filling his chest with blood. The official diagnosis was a thoracic aortic aneurysm and as his doctor told him, those who get it in this area usually do not reach the hospital alive.
“I was taken to a nearby hospital and immediately underwent open heart surgery which lasted over ten hours. “Five points on my chest have been replaced with metal, so I’m really made of… metal now.”
Richie Faulkner points out that things could be much worse , if the band set was bigger or if the hospital was further away.
“One last thing, because it was all completely new to me. I had no history of heart disease, clogged arteries, or even high cholesterol, and that could be my end. If you can do an exam do it for me please. ”
