The MG Marvel R is coming this month

In March MG launched two new models for the Norwegian market ; The Marvel R SUV and the MG 5 station wagon

The Norwegian importer has now released more details about the cars, as well as a new version of the popular MG ZS.

First out is the Marvel R, which comes to dealers during the month. The prices of the car were announced this summer , and these have not changed since then. The car still costs from 340,000 kroner in the simplest variant.

The starting price of the so-called Performance edition is 418,000 kroner. This has four-wheel drive, and three engines: one front and two rear.

It is mainly the Performance version that is delivered first, and some versions with two-wheel drive. The first cars will be delivered in the first quarter of next year.

Finally an electric station wagon

The station wagon MG 5 will be exhibited at dealers over the New Year, and then delivered to customers during the second quarter. They have thus shifted the previously indicated delivery time. In March it was said that the car would come to Norway this autumn.

MG 5 comes with two battery sizes, and has a range of up to 400 kilometers.

They present the car as a reasonably priced family car, but so far they have not said anything concrete about the price level beyond that the starting price should be below 30,000 euros. This should mean that it will cost from less than 300,000 kroner in this country.

The two battery variants are 51 kilowatt hours and 320 kilometers range, and 61.1 kilowatt hours and 400 kilometers range. Both variants have a 115 kilowatt motor with a torque of up to 260 newton meters. The car has front-wheel drive.

In the Norwegian importer’s press release, only the version with the largest battery is mentioned.

Largest battery first

Dag Asbjørnsen at importer Norwegian Mobility Group explains that they basically take in the version with the longest range, and want to prioritize this in Norway.

– We are continuously considering whether we should include the second version, says Asbjørnsen.

MG 5 is not a large station wagon, with luggage space on 479 liters which can be expanded to 1367 liters if you fold down the rear seat. In comparison, the popular station wagon Skoda Octacia has a 640 liter luggage compartment. The station wagon version of the VW Golf, which is no longer sold in Norway, is just over 600 liters.

We also notice that the luggage compartment volume has now been reduced. In March, it was stated to be 578 liters. The importer can not give us an answer to the reason, but emphasizes that it is the latest figures that apply. One explanation may be that 578 liters is the volume up to the roof, and 479 liters is up to the back of the seat.

Otherwise MG has 5 towbars, but this is limited to 500 kg.

More details about MG 5 will be released closer to the car’s sales start in the first quarter of next year.

Z ( In addition, MG breathes new life into the popular SUV ZS. This has been given a facelift with updated design in front.

The biggest changes have been made on the inside. ZS has received a massive upgrade of the battery capacity, which is now up to 70 kilowatt hours for the version with a range of 440 kilometers. Today’s edition has 45 kilowatt hours and 263 kilometers range.

A version with 50 kilowatt hours has also been launched, but is not mentioned in the Norwegian press release.

The price of the new ZS starts at 290,000 kroner for the cheapest edition, and 320,000 for the equipment level «Luxury». The car is exhibited at dealers during the month. Deliveries will begin in the first quarter of next year.

As with MG 5, the Norwegian importer prioritises the version with the longest range in Norway. Whether the version with a smaller battery will go on sale here is thus unclear.

An electric car with a 70 kilowatt-hour battery for NOK 290,000 before shipping and delivery costs is in any case very well priced. Asbjørnsen says that they are very pleased that the manufacturer is offensive, and that they continue with a good pricing strategy for Norway.

MG ZS is so far this year on the 15th best-selling electric car in the country, with 2330 registered copies. Since the start, a total of 6045 MG ZS has been registered. Today’s edition costs from 239,000 kroner.

New infotainment

Common to all the upcoming cars is that they get MG’s new infotainment system called «iSmart». This is touch screen based and can be updated online. The largest screen is available in the Marvel R, which has a 19.4-inch vertical screen.

The system is constantly connected to the Internet, and uses Amazon Web Services (AWS) as a platform. MG’s agreement with Amazon ensures that music streaming via Amazon Music is included in the system.

The system comes with DAB radio, Bluetooth connection, Wi-Fi zone, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, real-time data in the navigation system, and other online services.

MG allows you to use up to 1 GB a month, which is included for the first three years after purchase. After this you have to pay for the data traffic. At the time of writing, the importer cannot answer us what happens if you use more than 1 GB in the course of a month, or what the price will be after the first three years.

MG is also launching a new mobile app for the cars, which allows you to find where the car is, check the battery condition, start and stop charging, transfer the driving route to the car, and not least start the air conditioning. You can also unlock the car with your mobile.
