The message: The victims do not have to pay rent

Residents in 140 apartments have been homeless since the explosion on Övre Husargatan in Gothenburg. There is no forecast for when or if it will be possible for them to return to the property.

Now the property owner announces that the victims will not have to pay rent, reports SVT Nyheter Väst .

The residents do not have to pay rent until further notice, the property owner Ernst Rosén announces. Those who have already paid the October rent will get it back.

– Since it is not possible to live in the apartments, you will not have to pay any rent from the time this happened, says Jessica Bengtsson, marketing and communications manager at the property owner Ernst Rosén, to SVT.

No forecast

There is still no forecast for when or if the residents may return. The property owner has still not been given access to the building and has therefore not been able to evaluate the damage. Electricity, water and heating are also excluded.

– We need access to the entire property to be able to make an overall assessment, says Jessica Bengtsson to SVT.

The property owner collaborates with insurance companies and the city of Gothenburg to find solutions for those affected in the future. Many are currently living in hotels or with family and friends.
