‘Why are you so bloodthirsty?’ – Oleksandr Usyk hits out at reporter at being asked why he did not KO Anthony Joshua in title fight

Oleksandr Usyk did not seem best pleased at being asked why he did not knock Anthony Joshua out on Saturday night.

Britain’s unified heavyweight champion was outboxed and dethroned by the Ukrainian in a sublime performance in London.

Usyk’s speed, movement and accuracy troubled AJ all night long.

Joshua had moments of success throughout the fight, but could not maintain this for long enough to emerge victorious.

Usyk ultimately outclassed Joshua and had him out on his feet in the final round, with the bell saving AJ from being knocked out.

The scores were 117-112, 116-112, 115-113, crowning Usyk a two-division king of the world as the former cruiserweight champion took hold of the WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight titles.

However, upon arriving back in Ukraine, there was one question at his homecoming press conference that seemed to irk him.

When asked why he did not stop AJ, Usyk replied: “Why are you so bloodthirsty?

“There is victory, everything is fine. Why is it necessary for a person to fall?

“He has relatives and friends, a mother and a father.

“This is a big chunk of health in minus if a person falls and loses.

“I’m not for that, and not for him to get up and forget what day it is

“There was no knockout – and thank God. We will be healthier with Anthony Joshua.”

Usyk now has eyes on being the undisputed heavyweight king having conquered the cruiserweight division previously.

First he fights Joshua in their rematch and both will be tuning into the WBC title fight on 9 October.

“We can talk about the unification of all the belts only after Tyson Fury will have a boxing match again Deontay Wilder, and they determine the champion, and after our re-match with Anthony ,” Usyk told a news conference in Kiev.

“Of course, I would like very much to have this unification match.”

talkSPORT will have live and exclusive radio commentary of Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder 3 from Las Vegas on October 9.
