Chris Tall: Panic attacks and compulsions: He got help from a psychologist

The comedian and current “super talent” presenter Chris Tall (30) can be more personal than ever experience in the podcast “08/17” (AudioNow). In a one-hour conversation with his colleague Özcan Coşar (40), Chris Tall reveals that he has been working with a therapist for a long time because he suffered from compulsions and panic attacks.

“At some point I thought I needed help because I had the feeling that I never had a middle. I never had an emotional middle”, says the 30-year-old and says that he also has to struggle with the pressure to be in public.

Comedian Chris Tall showed himself with a new figure a few weeks ago. You can see more about this in the video above.

“You’re standing in the arena, 12,000 people come because of you, freaking out, fireworks at the end. And then you come down to the back, go from the stage, the show is over, (you) watch online and someone writes: ‘Yes … was shit’. And you come from the very top and fly all the way down. “

Chris Tall seeks help from the therapist: “Constant roller coaster ride”

With this “constant roller coaster ride” he was no longer able to get along properly. He felt that he was completely out of whack. “Through all this public, I noticed that I was coming to a limit here.”

That’s why he’s doing behavioral therapy and working out with a psychologist how he works in certain areas Deal with situations. “Regardless of whether that is something very good or something very bad.” He needs “a double bottom”.

Chris Tall also reveals in the podcast that he suffered from compulsions: “For example, I also had very bad tics – very bad, so really so very compulsive.” For example, he had a problem with odd numbers and, for example, left the volume of his television set too high to fall asleep, because otherwise it would have been on an odd number. The temperature in his car was also not allowed to show an odd number.

Compulsions and momentous panic attack at 130 kilometers per hour

A panic attack is also significant which he suffered while driving a car at 130 kilometers per hour. “Terrible, I couldn’t even drive 10 minutes after that. That really got me down,” said the comedian.

He also talked to the psychologist about that talked and learned to overcome his fear in small steps. At first he just sat in his car, switched the engine on and off again. Then he drove short distances – so that the negatives faded into the background with these small goals and success stories.

Chris Tall calls it “a liberation” to work with a psychologist and emphasizes the importance of seeking help or talking to people there, who experience the same.

Chris Tall: “I don’t want to be so vulnerable anymore”

He is convinced that artists suffer from a “certain dependence” on attention and that makes them more susceptible to criticism and negative comments on the internet. He caught himself looking for individual negative comments on stage “after a really great evening”.

He now knows where he is. “You know, here I am, where do I want to go, where do I come from. These are very important things.” And he knows that he has a huge family, all of whom are behind him and know him much better than the often anonymous critics on the net.

“I have found that I no longer want to be so vulnerable – because this basis is so much more important,” emphasizes Chris Tall.

In the new episodes of the RTL show “Das Supertalent” the long-time chief juror Dieter Bohlen is missing. See how he lives in Mallorca in the video below.
