In Germany, the number of asylum applications this year has almost doubled compared to other EU countries, where a total of 355,955 applications were registered in the first nine months. In Germany, the number of applications increased by 33% to 100,240 cases.

(28,645). “This means that almost two-thirds of all asylum applications in the EU-27 concern the four most populous countries,” notes Die Welt.

For comparison, Hungary only accepted 30 initial asylum applications in the first three quarters of 2021.

According to statistics, in 2020 migrants from Afghanistan and Syria were the largest group of asylum seekers in the EU, accounting for a third of all applicants. Migrants from Pakistan and Iraq came next.
