There should be transparency between BCCI and India captain, says Virat Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma

Rajkumar Sharma asked for more transparency between the BCCI and the players amid the ongoing controversy surrounding Virat Kohli and his removal from the ODI captain’s post this week.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Virat Kohli claimed that he was informed just 1.5 hours before his removal from ODI captaincy
  • Kohli also said that he wasn’t asked to continue as T20I skipper, contradicting Sourav Ganguly’s comment
  • BCCI president Ganguly has now said the board will look into this controversy and ‘deal with it’ accordingly
Virat Kohli’s press conference this week has left his childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma in shock after the former India ODI captain made some startling revelations before departing for the South Africa on Thursday.Kohli addressed the media for the first time since the BCCI sacked him as the one-day international skipper, a decision which he claimed was conveyed to him just a couple of hours before the Test squad announcement for their upcoming series against the Proteas.Kohli also contradicted BCCI president Sourav Ganguly’s statement that he was asked not to quit T20I captaincy. But the Indian Test skipper said that no such communication took place between him and the board, leaving the BCCI red-faced.“This is definitely shocking and this is news to me as well that Virat Kohli said something like this in the press conference. What comment should I give, about why it has happened and why such a thing should not have happened.“I would not like to comment too much on this. I will only want to say that they are the authority and whatever decision they have taken, they would have taken it thoughtfully and my statement about this does not hold any significance, whether they have done right or wrong,” Rajkumar told India News.He went on to add that there should be transparency between the Indian cricket board and the national team captain so that controversies like these can be avoided in the future.“This is something unusual I have heard, I didn’t see Virat’s press conference as well. This communication gap should not have happened. According to me, there should be transparency between them and I don’t know why this has happened or why such a communication gap was there,” Sharma said.Kohli reached Johannesburg with the Indian Test squad on Thursday for the upcoming 3-match series against South Africa, starting December 26. Rohit Sharma, who was ruled out of the Tests with a hamstring injury, will lead the ODI side if he’s fit in time for the 3-match series starting January 19 next year.

The Entire Dutton Family Tree From 1883 to Yellowstone

John Steinbeck once equated a book with a “wedge driven into a man’s personal life.” The shorter the book, wrote Steinbeck, the more easily removed the wedge. But a long book—in fact a very long book, maybe his own East of Eden—sticks around for a while. It lingers. The best stories are these, Steinbeck thinks
