Former NFL QB offers Caleb Williams $1 million NIL deal to shirk USC, Georgia

Former NFL quarterback Charlie Batch offered Caleb Williams a $1 million NIL deal to leave Oklahoma and bypass USC and Georgia to go to his alma mater.

If you don’t like the idea of the transfer portal and NIL intersecting to truly create a sense of free agency in college football, then look away.

Oklahoma quarterback Caleb Williams entered the transfer portal this week and he’s already received a public offering for a massive NIL deal.

The catch? He’d have to go to Eastern Michigan to cash in.

Charlie Batch offers Caleb Williams $1 million to shirk USC, Georgia

Former Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch, who played quarterback at Eastern Michigan, jumped on Twitter and offered Williams $1 million to transfer to Eastern Michigan for one year.

The money would be put up by GameAbove Capital, which is a financial company started by EMU alumni. Batch is on their advisory board.

Is that offer strictly legal? It’s not very clear.

NCAA Name, Image and Likeness rules are still in their infancy and many of the details still need to be ironed out.

It is, however, safe to say that the NCAA would not be too eager to allow investment groups started by alumni of particular schools to publically entice players in the transfer portal to play for their football program for money.

If Eastern Michigan alumni can put up $1 million for Caleb Williams, there’s nothing stopping USC or Georgia alumni from upping the ante.

Williams is exploring his options in the transfer portal after Lincoln Riley left Oklahoma for USC. As a former five-star quarterback with playing experience as a true freshman, he is the most coveted player in the portal at the moment with Georgia, Texas A&M, UCLA and countless others rumored to be after his services.
