It seems that consolidation in the anime industry is the trend going into the new year, and following up on yesterday’s bombshell Sentai Filmworks acquisition by AMC Networks, another pillar of independent anime streaming in Digital Media Rights has been acquired by a fellow competitor in Cinedigm.
This means that the company responsible for the CONtv linear streaming channel and the recently launched CONtv Anime now owns the company behind Retro Crush, Asian Crush and 8 more streaming networks dedicated to fan favorite and cult programming. Following the completion of the acquisition, Cinedigm will own 15 streaming networks with dedicated apps and premium subscription options, while also working to expand the quantity of licenses and acquisitions for the channel portfolio.
The acqusition will also see the Digital Media Rights channel portfolio transition to Cinedigm’s Matchpoint digital advertising platform to position the channels for future advertsing growth, with an additional focus on growing revenue through an expanded social media and online community presence, which already consists of dedicated social media accounts, with four more dedicated community channels in development.
