Tamagawa Sky Bridge, 3/12 opening Haneda Airport-Kawasaki, logistics and business revitalization

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government, which will jointly develop the “Tama River Sky Bridge” connecting Haneda Airport and the Tonomachi district (Kawasaki City) on the opposite bank with Kawasaki City, will open the bridge on December 22nd. Announced that it will open on March 12, 2022. By connecting the area around Haneda Airport and the Keihin coastal area, it is expected that international competitiveness will be strengthened with the aim of revitalizing logistics and business exchanges.

It will open at 3:00 pm on the day. A commemorative ceremony is scheduled from 10 am before the opening, but the general public cannot participate.

Tamagawa Sky Bridge is At about 675 meters , Connects Haneda Airport 2-chome, Ota-ku and Tonomachi 3-chome, Kawasaki-ku, Kawasaki-shi on the opposite bank. This is a general road jointly developed by Kawasaki City, Tokyo, and the Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB) of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Including the bridge, the total length is about 870 meters. Maintenance will start in 2016, and the project cost will be about 30 billion yen.

The name will be decided by open call for participants. During the period from January 15th to February 15th this year, 8498 applications were submitted, and the name decision was announced on July 6th. Kawasaki City stated that the reason for selecting the Tama River Sky Bridge was “It is easy to have the image that the areas on both banks of the Tama River are connected and develop into the sky and the world, and it is close to Haneda Airport and the sky is wide and open. It’s suitable for a bridge that you can feel. ”

Haneda Airport Garden, a complex facility directly connected to King Sky Front, an international strategic base in Tonomachi, Kawasaki-ku, Kawasaki City, and Haneda Airport Terminal 3 (formerly known as International Terminal). Connects the second zone of the former Haneda Airport site, which is scheduled to open. By opening the road, we aim to develop both districts and form an international business base.

The Tama River runs between the two districts, and the bridge will be the first bridge from the mouth of the Tama River. Currently, when traveling by car between Haneda Airport and Tonomachi, it is necessary to use the Daishibashi Bridge, which is about 2 km upstream, and the Metropolitan Expressway Bayshore Line, which is about 3.5 km downstream.

The Tonomachi area is under the new flight route of Haneda Airport, which started in March 2020. A flight departing from Runway B (RWY22) passes over the district in the evening when the south wind is in operation. In addition, the Kawasaki Factory of ANA Catering Service (ANAC), which handles in-flight meals for All Nippon Airways (ANA / NH), is also located in the Tonomachi area.
