John Deere, one of the world’s leading tractor manufacturers, has announced at CES 2022 that it will launch an autonomous tractor.
Specifically, he can work the land without a driver present in the machine. The machine will use an extremely precise system, GPS, but also advanced video cameras, according to a company announcement. The high-powered machine can be activated via a smartphone, using cameras and sensors to navigate the agricultural field.
The innovations were presented at the CES technology exhibition, they include several cameras that monitor the surroundings, using machine learning to detect objects and avoid collisions.
The company is not the first to introduce automated tractor technology, but it is among the largest agricultural equipment manufacturers in the world
When production of the autonomous tractor will start
John Deere announced at CES 2022 that production of the new tractor will start before the end of the year. The new model is called the Deere 8R and comes equipped with six sets of 3D cameras, a navigation system and hardware equipped with neural networks that can process camera images in real time.
Therefore, the company’s representatives claim that the driver only has to bring the tractor on the piece of land to be shown. The driver can program the machine to work and monitor it from an application installed on the smartphone. The margin of error is 2.5 cm.
John Deere announced that it tested this tractor three years ago. Some tests have even been carried out on farms in the UK. The tractor manufacturer plans to distribute, in the first phase, between 12 and 20 stand-alone models.
