Ambassador Gilad Erdan announced Wednesday that Israel is advancing a UN resolution to combat Holocaust denial.
According to Erdan, he will put the resolution to a vote before the UN General Assembly on 20 January, the 80th anniversary of when the Nazis held the Wannsee Conference in Berlin to discuss Hitler’s final solution.
The resolution will use the working definition of the International Alliance of Holocaust Remembrance (IHRA) of Holocaust denial and will urge countries and social media giants to combat Holocaust distortion on their platforms.
According to Erdan’s office, the United States and the Germany support the resolution and support Israel. According to the ambassador, the dangerous phenomenon of Holocaust denial has only increased amid the rise of anti-Semitism during the COVID-19 pandemic and Israel’s war with Gaza last May.
“I hope even countries with whom we have no relations understand the importance of this resolution… and decide to vote in favor,” he said, according to CBN News.
