The winger Miguel Ângelo was called to the Portuguese futsal team today, replacing Cardinal, who will miss the European Championship of the category due to injury, informed the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF).
According to the note published on the official website of the organization, the Sporting pivot has a “clinical condition of disabling low back pain”, and the coach Jorge Braz chose to call Miguel Ângelo, who is also in the ‘lions’.
This will be the third consecutive international competition that Cardinal will miss for the national team, after being left out of Euro2018 and World Cup 2021 – both won by Portugal -, also for physical reasons.
The 2022 European Futsal Championship will take place in Amsterdam and Groningen, the Netherlands, from January 19 to February 6, with 16 teams divided into four groups. The first two classified in each group qualify for the quarter finals.
Portugal, which won the last edition of the competition, in 2018, in Slovenia, is integrated in Group A, together with the hosts, Serbia and Ukraine, with its debut scheduled for January 19, against the Serbs, before facing the Netherlands, in 23, and Ukraine, in 28.
Until the match for the European , the national team will play two preparation games in Rio Maior, both against North Macedonia, on January 13th and 14th.

– Universal: Erick Mendonça (Sporting).
– Pivot: Zicky (Sporting).
