Beware of links like “Are you in the video?”, “Looks like you”, “Appear in this video”

Pay attention to the links you receive on social media, because not all of them are what they seem! Very attractive in name, they can block your account if you access them.

The National Directorate of Cyber Security (DNSC) warns against malicious link attacks spread through social media messages, with texts such as “Are you in this video?”, “Looks like you” or “Appear in this video”. Although at first glance they seem harmless and urge you to access them. , this step may result in loss of access to the account currently in use.

The messages are in Romanian or English

Through a post on Facebook, DNSC draws attention to the fact that the messages received by Romanian users are in Romanian or English and usually contain a malicious link, which the sender claims to be a video or a picture in which the person to whom the message was sent appears.

Accessing that link usually does not show anything on your device, but may result in loss of access to the social media account currently in use.

If you clicked on that link or see that such messages have been sent from your account, the DNSC team recommends:

Change immediately Facebook account password and activate 2-step authentication (2FA) Make sure that no third-party applications on Facebook have been granted . To do this, you need to log in to your Facebook account and navigate to Settings & Privacy and then Settings. Next, go to the Permissions category and tap on Apps and Websites to see which apps you’ve accessed. Remove those applications that you consider suspicious. Tap the application, then click the Remove button to protect your account from unauthorized access to suspicious third-party applications.
