AMLO confirms that he tested positive for Covid-19; will remain in isolation

After contracting the coronavirus for the second time, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reported on his Twitter account that the Secretary of the Interior, Adán Augusto López Hernández, will represent him at morning press conferences and other events.

The president Andrés Manuel López Obrador confirmed this Monday that tested positive for coronavirus , this is the second time that the president has been infected with this disease.

The president assured through his social networks that he is well and has not presented serious symptoms of Covid-19 and that the head of the Ministry of the Interior, Adán Augusto López will represent him in his traditional morning conferences.

“I inform you that I am infected with Covid-19 and although the symptoms are mild, I will remain in isolation and will only do office work and communicate virtually until I get ahead,” explained López Obrador.

The proof that López Obrador carried out on January 10 was due to the fact that woke up in the morning “hoarse” , however, he did not cancel his usual morning press conference. The federal president said that he considered that his symptoms were due only to a flu and not a Covid-19 infection.

López Obrador met last week with the Secretary of Economy, Tatiana Clouthier, who announced on Friday that she had tested positive for coronavirus.

“Covid-19, this new variant, is affecting a lot. I met with her (Clouthier ) about three days ago (…) I have no symptoms, the truth is that I am very well, I am well and I have no symptoms”, the President then stressed.

It should be remembered that it was on January 24, 2021 when President López Obrador
was infected for the first time with the disease caused by the SARS coronavirus- CoV-2, in the framework of the second wave of infections in the country.

Since then and until February 8 of last year, the president was absent from the morning conferences. During that period, it was reported that he was treated with an experimental treatment developed at the Salvador Zubirán National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition.

Since the end of December 2021, Mexico has faced a fourth wave of infections , before which President López Obrador has commented that “fortunately, it is not yet reflected in hospitalizations and, most importantly, in deaths,” he indicated.

At the cutoff this Monday, the Ministry of Health reported 11,052 new infections and 78 more deaths regarding what was reported on Sunday, January 9. Given this, the number of deaths due to the coronavirus rose to 300,412; while the accumulated number of confirmed cases is 4 million 136,440.

Last Saturday, January 8, the highest number of infections recorded since the pandemic arrived in Mexico was registered, after reported 30,671 infections in 24 hours.

The President assured that, according to the figures, the variant Ómicron does not have the same lethality as the Delta variant.
