– They have gone to Germany with great regularity. Since then, they have temporarily stored alcohol in Denmark and gone over several times to pick it up to reduce the risk of detection, says Erik Friberg, deputy head of the Swedish Customs’ Criminal Unit South, to the newspaper.
It is a man, a woman, their three adult children and a son-in-law who have been charged with aggravated smuggling. Everyone denies crime.
Between January 2018 and October 2020, the family is suspected of having made 185 smuggling trips. Large quantities of beer, wine and spirits have been imported. Converted to 40% alcohol, this is 5,000 liters, according to the Swedish Customs. The alcohol is estimated to have cost around 400,000 to buy. How much the family earned is not known.
During the smuggling trips, a rebuilt car with reinforced shock absorption was used. It has been done to be able to have more alcohol in the car, according to the prosecutor.
