Rahul believes there might be something in the wicket upfront before the heat of the day bakes any life out of the track.

Speaking at the toss, Rahul said: “Looks like a nice wicket, a bit sticky so we’ll try and get some wickets up early.

Rahul said that India do not view the game as a dead rubber and will come out to win the contest.

Proteas change one

The skipper announced four changes to the starting XI.

“We value each game no matter the result, we want to get better as a team and the boys have motivated themselves, they’re professionals. The energy has been great even in the two losses. Hopefully we can start well with the ball today. We’ve forgotten what happened in the first two games, today is a new opportunity. We have a few plans, there are few things we need to fix and get better at. Four changes: Suryakumar, Jayant, Krishna, Deepak come in for Ashwin, Thakur, Venkatesh and Bhuvneshwar.”

Temba Bavuma revealed that Wayne Parnell would have played but for an overnight illness, instead there is just one change with Dwaine Pretorius coming in for Tabraiz Shamsi.

“We’ve just made one change. Dwaine Pretorius comes in for Shamsi,” Bavuma said.

“It’s very important to keep our standard, we don’t want to drop the intensity.

“Wayne has fallen sick overnight. We know the new ball can do a bit here, we need to get through the powerplay with minimal damage for a formidable score, like anything in excess of 300 is competitive.
