Radio Cubana: look back to move forward

Considered by our Commander in Chief Fidel Castro as “heavy artillery of the Revolution”, the Cuban Radio will celebrate on August 22, 100 years of foundation.

Under the motto of Radio Cubana: One hundred years of a sound to see, the institution has proposed to carry out an important group of activities that accentuate the role of the medium in our current context in the economic, cultural, educational and political formation of our people that make this a people active, above all, in the search for solutions, and contributing to improve the policies of the public agenda that the radio has outlined in order to continue marching together with the highest authorities of the country in the construction of our socialism.

Creating values, habits and lifestyles is one of the objectives that Cuban radio and its national system of stations promote in their transmissions, like a hundred years ago, when the initiator Luis Casas Romero ranked us among the first of Latin America to have this type of communication.

Since last year the radio, according to Mirta Ramos Diforneau, communication director of the Cuban radio, announced via email, they have proposed to delve into the history of the medium, through interviews with journalists, broadcasters, directors, technicians and anyone who through their work contributes to radio development in our country.

Part of this effort is the Cuban Radio Contest: 100 years of history, and the release of Radioarte’s dramatized production Huellas en el aire, directed by Manuel Ramírez Heras and written by Ángel Luis Martínez, with a cast of actors and actresses with great experience and the Cuban Radio Centenary Colloquium, to be held on July 20, 21 and 22, 2022.

According to Ramos Diforneau, the institution today has, among its challenges, to conquer the young public with a more attractive and representative programming, achieve audience loyalty, innovate and change us external structures and encourage citizen participation. Cuban radio will look back but with its eyes and its actions focused on the present and the future, always perfecting itself, transforming itself technologically and humanly.

On August 22, 2022, Cuban radio will ratify its condition training school for radio broadcasters committed to their time and their country. This campaign will not only have national significance but will also reach beyond our borders, especially in Latin America, thus consolidating the value of its workers and fulfilling its central motto of One hundred years of a sound to see.
