The Utah Jazz fear that forward Joe Ingles suffered a significant left knee injury during Sunday night’s 126-106 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, sources told ESPN. The team announced he will undergo an MRI on Monday in Salt Lake City.

Ingles’ knee buckled on a drive to the basket, causing him to crumple to the court in the second quarter. Ingles needed help to get to the locker room, and sources tell ESPN that an initial examination fueled considerable concern of a serious knee injury.

“I feel bad for him,” said Utah assistant head coach Alex Jensen, who was filling in for head coach Quin Snyder due to Snyder being in health and safety protocols. “Hopefully it’s better than we all think.”

Ingles has been a vital part of the Jazz for eight seasons, averaging 7.4 points, 2.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists this season in 25.2 minutes per game. He was the runner-up to teammate Jordan Clarkson for the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award last season.

Ingles is in the final year of a contract that pays $13 million in 2021-22.

All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell missed his seventh straight game with a concussion on Sunday, and All-Star center Rudy Gobert missed his fourth game with a left calf strain.

The Jazz have now dropped five straight and eight of 10 games to move into fourth place in the Western Conference.
