Today a boat of the “Border Police” approached the ship, which took samples of the water.

By order of the Minister of Environment and Water Asen Lichev starts additional area monitoring of the sea waters in the area of the stranded ship, which will serve as a basis for comparison of the consequences on the environment in subsequent rescue operations.

The monitoring plan was developed jointly with experts from the Institute of Oceanology – BAS, the MoEW announced. The points are selected according to the distance from the ship, the direction of the prevailing current and the forecasted meteorological situation for the next 10 days. This will allow monitoring of the potential impact on the marine environment in the event of urea entering the marine waters during the restart of the ship’s landing activities.

Regular water samples will be taken at 7 points in the area south and southeast of the ship. The first sample will be followed by weekly model surveys of coastal marine waters throughout the month.

pH, salinity, dissolved oxygen, oxygen saturation, ammonium nitrogen, nitrite nitrogen and nitrogen will be measured

In parallel with the additional area monitoring, the MoEW continues to monitor the state of the waters in the Black Sea on a daily basis in the immediate vicinity of the stranded vessel.

The cargo is planned of manure left on “Vera Su” to be transferred by special pumps to three barges to be provided by the European Maritime Safety Agency.

The barges in question are expected to arrive in the following days.

At the moment the situation on the ship is calm. If evacuation is necessary, it can be done either by sea with special boats or by land. There is a special network of ropes on the bow of the ship, which is connected to a part of the sea shore and sailors are expected to climb on this network in case of emergency.
