A 5.5 magnitude earthquake in the Aegean Sea was felt and in Bulgaria
A magnitude 5.5 earthquake with an epicenter in the Aegean Sea was felt in southwestern Bulgaria shortly before 2 p.m. today. The quake was felt most strongly in Petrich, Sandanski, Blagoevgrad, and was felt in almost all settlements in Haskovo and Kardzhali region. The epicenter was 138 km southeast of Thessaloniki. There are currently no data on damage and injured people.
Sofia Airport reports 14.5% growth of passengers in 2021
Sofia Airport has served a total of 3,364,151 passengers, which is an increase of 14.5% compared to 2020, but is 52.7% less than the pre-pandemic 2019, the press center of the airport said. Passenger traffic on international scheduled flights increased by 12.9% compared to 2020, and domestic passengers increased by 50%. Compared to 2019, there is a serious decrease here as well – by 55.1% for international passengers and by 30.8% for domestic passengers.
The top destinations with the most passengers in 2021 are: London – 400,856, Varna – 175,192, and Frankfurt – 142,999. Respectively, the countries to which they traveled the most from Sofia Airport are: Germany – 506,838, Great Britain – 467,275, and Italy – 322,482.
An earthquake of 3 on the Richter scale was registered in Pernik
An earthquake with a magnitude of 3 on the Richter scale was registered in Pernik tonight at 3.42 am, BNR reported. Shortly after the first quake, a second, weaker quake was felt. No evidence of destruction or damage. According to BAS, the epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 10 km
