Court of Appeal – Plovdiv left in custody charges of murdering GG, rejecting his request to change the measure of restraint from “detention in custody” to a lighter one.

According to the court, it is evident from the materials of the pre-trial proceedings that additional interrogations of the accused’s sister and other witnesses were conducted, and a Complex Forensic Psychological and psychiatric and toxicochemical expertise, which are sufficient to conclude that the District Court in Stara Zagora has correctly concluded that there are sufficient grounds for a reasonable suspicion that GG is involved in the raised o his charge of premeditated murder.
For this crime, the Penal Code provides for imprisonment of 15 to 20 years, life imprisonment or life imprisonment without parole.
The appellate magistrates considered that there were other preconditions for detention, namely that with a milder measure of restraint there was still a real danger that G. G. would abscond or to commit a crime.
The Court considers that the elapsed period of time since the initial detention of the accused is within the legal time limit, which is reasonable given the gravity of the act. The ruling of the Court of Appeal – Plovdiv is final.
