A TKW from Aceh is Reportedly Paralyzed and Abandoned in Malaysia

Merdeka.com – A female worker (TKW) from Banda Aceh City, Syarifah Mazidah (53) was reported to be paralyzed and neglected in Malaysia. The family hopes that the government will help Syarifah to return home and be treated in Aceh.

“The family had lost contact, there was no news and there was no communication between Syarifah and her family in the village for six years. then, there is news from the group Facebook ‘Children of Overseas Aceh’, that Syarifah is sick and half of her body is paralyzed,” said Head of the Inong Aceh Alliance (AIA) Nova Rahmawati, when meeting Syarifah’s family in Banda Aceh.

She explained, Syarifah Mazidah left for Malaysia in 2014 and had worked as a household assistant.

Some time ago, Syarifah was found on the street by Malaysians, He was then taken to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang. During a month in the hospital, Syarifah was guarded by Acehnese who had lived in Malaysia. The cost of his treatment has been assisted by the Acehnese living in Malaysia.

“The cost of his treatment is in arrears of around 10 million at the hospital. He is currently paralyzed and has difficulty speaking. His family does not have any

Meanwhile, the Aceh government through the Social Service said it would bear all the costs of repatriating the TKW from Banda Aceh.

“We from the Aceh Social Service have received information regarding Syarifah who is paralyzed in Malaysia and are trying to do further fact-finding regarding this matter. At the direction of the Governor, God willing, the Aceh Government will bear the responsibility Syarifah’s repatriation costs,” said the Head of the Aceh Social Service, Yusrizal, Saturday (15/1).

He explained that the Aceh Social Service team was communicating with parties in Malaysia regarding technical and administrative repatriation from there, considering currently still in a Covid-19 pandemic condition

“To the family of Syarifah Mazidah, please be patient, we are trying to be immediately brought back to Aceh to continue medical treatment here,” he said.
