South Korean actor-singer-model Bae Suzy also popular as ‘Suzy’ debuted with Miss A, a girl group under JYP Entertainment. Over a while, she made her mark in television and cinema, soon becoming ‘The Nation’s First Love’
In July 2010, Bae Suzy alongside Fei, Jia, and Min made her first appearance as a K-pop idol through Miss A formed by JYP Entertainment. The rookie group dropped their debut single “Bad Girl Good Girl” scoring a number one position on the Gaon Digital Chart, which also became the best-performing song on the chart for the same year.
Apart from her group activities, Bae became a popular show host in no time, venturing into acting soon after. Her first break came with the high-school drama Dream High, whose global success made her a star overnight. She debuted in film with the super-hit Architecture 101 in 2012, bagging the ‘Best New Actress’ award at the 48th Baeksang Arts Awards. Reportedly, she was the first Korean female artist to win a series of awards in a row: a singer rookie award, a drama rookie award, a film rookie award, and a variety rookie award.
After a supporting role in the Gong Yoo and Lee Minjung starrer Big, Bae Susy shared screen space with Lee Seungi in the historical fusion Gu Family Book in 2013. She learned the South Korean traditional Pansori singing-style to portray ‘Jin Chaesun,’ Korea’s first Pansori singer in the film, The Sound Of A Flower. In January 2016, her collaboration with EXO’s Baekhyun for the digital single “Dream” was highly appreciated with the “Best Collaboration” at the Mnet Asian Music Awards.
She dropped her solo album Yes? No? on January 24th, 2017, and also released a duet, “Don’t Wait For Your Love” with Park Won in the same year. Her sophomore album Faces Of Love was released thereafter with the main single “Holiday” and she released her fourth music video with the single “Midnight”.
Following the massive success of her presence in the romance melodrama Uncontrollably Fond, opposite Kim Woobin, Bae returned to television with While You Were Sleeping, a fantasy drama alongside Lee Jongsuk. Her character as a secret agent in spy-action drama Vagabond was well received by the audience leading her to the action film Ashfall where she played the role of Ha Joongwoo’s wife. In 2020, she appeared opposite Nam Joohyuk and Kim Seonho in the drama Start-Up as ‘Seo Dalmi,’ who dreams of becoming the Steve Jobs of Korea by setting up a start-up firm.
Rumor has it, the South Korean sensation will be seen romancing South Indian superstar Ram Charan in an action-packed historical film directed by none other than South Indian filmmaker Shankar. Expected to release this year, the movie will drop under the banner of Sri Venkateswara Creations. According to reports, it’s going to be a pan-Asia film and the title is yet to be finalized.
