Ten months ago, the Central District Court convicted Meuda of 17 cases of abuse and assault against 11 infants and toddlers in the “Baby Love” nursery she operated. In addition, the parents of the toddlers filed a civil lawsuit against Meuda in order to obtain compensation of NIS 2.5 million.
Of the babies in a blanket, sat on them to prevent movement, tied the hands of one of the toddlers with a string for minutes to hours, grabbed some of them by force and lifted them in the air until they were thrown to the floor. She was also charged with shaking, putting babies face down on the wall, sometimes for hours, and slapping them with a diaper, slapping them, pinching and pulling their heads back while blocking their noses and mouths.
The investigation against Meuda began following the publication of documentation of the abuse, as recorded on cameras placed in the nursery. The documentation revealed harsh acts and even ignited a huge protest across the country. The parents of the toddlers in Meuda’s nursery used to come to the legal hearings in the case, and more than once called out to her from the audience’s benches. Shortly after the affair broke out, Meuda’s house in Rosh HaAyin, where the nursery was located, was even set on fire. The lighter, Adir Ratzon, was convicted in a plea deal in July and sentenced to three and a half years in prison.
