Som Prakash, Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, has also written to the Chief Election Commissioner asking that the state election be rescheduled to a date after February 18.Additionally, the Punjab Lok Congress has supported the demand to postpone the election in Punjab by a week.
WHAT DID CM CHANNI SAY?
On Saturday, CM Channi had written to the Election Commission asking that the Punjab Assembly election be postponed by at least six days to enable devotees who will be travelling to Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh for Guru Ravidas Jayanti to cast their votes.CM Channi of the Congress-led government in Punjab said the issue was brought to his notice by representatives of the Scheduled Caste community. Around 20 lakh SC devotees are likely to visit Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh between February 10 to February 16, 2022, he said.”In the above background, it is considered fair and appropriate that the vote for the election may be postponed for at least six days, enabling abot 20 lakh people to utilise their right to vote… I am sure you would consider this sympathetically and have the needful done,” CM Channi wrote to Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra.
GURU RAVIDAS JAYANTI
Guru Ravidas Jayanti will be celebrated on February 16 this year. The 645th birth anniversary of saint Guru Ravidas will be observed on the occasion.Guru Ravidas was a well-recognised saint of the Bhakti Movement.Around 40 poems accredited to Ravidas were included in the Adi Granth, a sacred Sikh scripture.
