Football: Proceedings against Real Madrid, Barça and Juve set

(dpa) Uefa has responded to a judicial threat from Spain and will not pursue the proceedings against the three breakaway Super League clubs Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Juventus Turin. The Uefa confirmed on Tuesday. The European association will not demand any penalty payment from the other nine Super League teams.

After careful examination, it was concluded that the continuation of a legal dispute was not in your own interest and that of the member associations, according to a Uefa announcement. The Uefa Appeals Chamber had therefore decided that the proceedings would not be pursued further. In the room there was a Champions League exclusion of the three top clubs.

Nevertheless, the clear stance against the establishment of a super league and the disapproval of the behavior of the clubs involved remain. They will continue to do whatever is necessary to stop the Super League and any form of breakaway league. Likewise, in the event of a possible resumption of any spin-off plans, new legal steps are reserved.

The Spanish judge Manuel Ruiz de Lara had given Uefa an ultimatum the previous week to withdraw the threats of sanctions against the founding members of the controversial super league. Otherwise, Uefa President Aleksander Ceferin will face charges for failure to comply with a judicial judgment.

Twelve European top clubs, including initially six English Premier League clubs, had shocked football Europe in April with the publication of their Super League plans. The super league would have entered into direct competition with the Uefa Champions League, which, like many national leagues and associations, sharply criticized these plans. Fans demonstrated against the plans.
