When free agency opens up later this month, it’s looking like wide receiver Allen Robinson won’t be returning to the Chicago Bears.
Has veteran wide receiver Allen Robinson played his last game for the Chicago Bears? Things sure are looking that way, as Robinson is a free agent and he’s expected to field several offers once the new league year begins.
There had been some hope among Chicago fans that Robinson would be back, but the feeling is he’s as good as gone. While new general manager Ryan Poles wouldn’t discuss whether or not Robinson would be back, he did give a glowing review of wideout Darnell Mooney, who will step in as the No. 1 option moving forward if Robinson does head elsewhere.
Ryan Poles is a big fan of Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney
“He’s got a quiet confidence about him,” Poles said via ESPN. “He’s hungry to be special. I’m always looking for guys that, they’re just raising their own bar in terms of where they want to go. He wants to be special. You can feel that in him.”
Mooney had a breakout campaign for the Bears in 2021, leading the team with his 81 receptions for 1,055 yards and four touchdowns. Now, Mooney is ready to put up more big numbers for this offense, with Justin Fields getting ready for his first full year as the team’s starter.
Robinson had a letdown in 2021 after recording consecutive 1,000-yard seasons in 2019 and 2020. Robinson was held to 38 catches for 410 yards and one score. Obviously, that wasn’t the kind of production anyone was expecting from him.
Now, people will be waiting to see where Robinson will be suiting up in 2022. At this point, it’d be a bit of a shock to see him back at Soldier Field this fall.
