AMAKA Studio, a social publishing platform empowering Pan-African creators to reach a global audience and earn through subscriptions and gigs, has secured $2 million seed funding to empower Black and African creators globally.
The round was led by Equitane (formerly Africa Transformation and Industrialization Fund: ATIF), alongside key partners such as Morgan Stanley Inclusive Ventures Lab, Silverbacks Holdings, and a group of angel investors.
According to AMAKA Founder and CEO Adaora Oramah: “This investment enables us to scale to a full proposition and technological ecosystem for creators to share content while also being commissioned for their work on the platform. We aim to compensate Black and African creators for their work and address their current pain points while allowing audiences to browse and support both emerging and established content creators.
Oramah added that brands can use the platform to source creators for branded content and marketing strategies, driving equality and equity for African content creators worldwide.
“From content creation and commissioning to financial inclusion, we are driving economic impact and change for a dynamic community that has been routinely underserved,” Oramah added.
With the investment AMAKA Gigs is set to revolutionize the creator economy by connecting brands with creators in a streamlined process that encourages collaboration, transparency, and financial equity. The Amaka Gigs platform will evolve, allowing brands to easily discover, commission, and manage Black and African creators worldwide in a more streamlined and transparent process.
The platform will also integrate digital wallets and accounts to give creators seamless payment options, addressing one of the creator economy’s most pressing needs as well as launch comprehensive product, content, and performance marketing campaigns to drive user acquisition, activation, and retention, thereby fostering a vibrant community of creators and users.
According to the firm, this funding is more than just a financial boost but a critical step toward driving equity for Black and African creators who have been historically underserved in the digital space. AMAKA Studio’s vision is to become the go-to destination for both emerging and established creators, offering automated tools that make it easier for creators to connect with brands, manage their work, and monetize their content effectively.
AMAKA Studio also aims to bolster its sales and B2B marketing efforts to attract a wider range of small businesses and larger advertisers.
“We are excited to lead the investment in AMAKA Studio’s remarkable journey towards revolutionizing the creator economy. At Equitane, our mission to drive sustainable and innovative development aligns perfectly with AMAKA’s vision to empower creators through cutting-edge technology and financial solutions,” said Anish Jain, CEO of Equitane.
