AMD confirms that Windows 11 may cause performance degradation of Ryzen CPUs by up to 15%

The media has continuously reported some known issues after users install Microsoft’s latest Windows 11 operating system, whether it is Oracle VirtualBox software or Browser compatibility issues, and network connectivity issues of Intel’s communication solutions. Today, AMD confirmed reports from previous users that some of their processor products on the Windows 11 compatibility list appeared when running certain applications after installing a new operating system Performance issues.

Question points:

Reddit user axaro1 posted a screenshot showing AMD and Microsoft performance difference before fix.

AMD recommends that its users stick to Windows 10. No upgrade for the time being as a workaround, the operating system hot fix is coming soon.

Known areas affected by performance changes, such as L3 cache latency, may increase by 2 to 3 times.

UEFI CPPC2 (“Preferred Core”) may not prioritize threads on the fastest core of the processor, which is the main cause of performance degradation .

AMD said that the increase in L3 cache latency will directly affect the memory subsystem Access to time-sensitive applications may have potential impact, and “expected performance impact in affected applications is 3-5%, and there may be 10-15% outliers in games commonly used in e-sports” . With the impact on the performance of the preferred core, threads cannot be scheduled with the correct effectiveness on the most efficient core of AMD processors, certain “applications sensitive to the performance of one or several CPU threads may exhibit performance degradation”, and ” The performance impact may be more easily noticed in>8-core processors above 65W TDP.”

In order to solve these problems, AMD and Microsoft have begun to cooperate to prepare Windows 11 updates, as well as AMD’s separate software updates, these updates will be within this month roll out. Microsoft and AMD plan to update their respective knowledge bases with articles, and once they have version numbers and other information, they will be provided to users. AMD said that when these problems occur, it is recommended to continue to use the currently supported version of Windows 10 instead of continuing to use Windows 11 until these problems are actively resolved.

Other companies may encounter similar problems, but only a few days after the launch of the new operating system, users and companies continue to find problems, which is very normal for a new version of the operating system.
