RB Leipzig resumed its Bundesliga schedule on Saturday at home and Tyler Adams claimed his first start of 2022 in the process.
Adams played 90 minutes as Domenico Tedesco’s side rolled past Mainz 4-1 at Red Bull Arena, moving to ninth place in the league standings. The U.S. men’s national team midfielder compiled a 97% passing rate in the match, the best by any player in the match. Adams also won two of his five individual duels in the match and also made five recoveries, helping the hosts rebound from back-to-back winless results. Up next for RB Leipzig will be a trip to Pellegrino Matarazzo’s Stuttgart on January 15 before two-consecutive home matches.
Matt Miazga made his return for Spanish club Deportivo Alaves on Sunday, playing 90 minutes in a scoreless draw with Athletic Bilbao. Miazga recently returned to training after contracting COVID-19 and earned his first start since November 30 in all competitions. The USMNT defender won seven of nine duels and made four clearances as Alaves picked up its second straight draw after three-consecutive losses prior to that.
Weston McKennie started for Juventus on Sunday and helped the Serie A side earn a 4-3 road victory over AS Roma. McKennie completed a match-high two dribbles from his midfield position and also contributed three interceptions as Massimiliano Allegri’s side moved three points back of the top four in Italy’s top flight.
Christian Pulisic excelled for Chelsea in a 5-1 FA Cup third round romp over Chesterfield on Saturday, assisting once and drawing one penalty kick in the win. Pulisic started for Thomas Tuchel’s side against the National League visitors, and didn’t disappoint in a lopsided victory at Stamford Bridge. Pulisic will now turn his attentions to Carabao Cup play midweek as Chelsea aims to eliminate Tottenham and advance to the Final of the competition.
