Benedict Cumberbatch will reportedly star in Wes Anderson’s next film, an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s short story “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar,” for streaming giant Netflix.
Baz Bamigboye announced the news which follows on from comments by cinematographer Robert Yeoman who indicated Anderson was heading to England to shoot another film shortly – his second production within the span of six months.
The short story is one of seven in Dahl’s 1977 collection “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More” which targets a slightly older audience than Dahl’s other literary works.
The tale follows a wealthy man with a penchant for gambling who discovers a doctor’s report about a patient from India who learned a technique to see through and around objects.
Henry attempts to master the art and does so enough to effectively cheat at gambling before becoming a philanthropist establishing orphanages – even as the mob is on his tail for taking their money.
The movie will follow in the wake of “Asteroid City” which Anderson shot this past Fall and which stars the likes of Tom Hanks, Margot Robbie and Scarlett Johansson. It also follows Netflix acquiring the iconic Roald Dahl Story Company in September of last year.
