One of the main new features of Android 12 is Material You, the theme engine by which the mobile changes the colors of the interface, widgets and applications according to the background of screen of the moment Android 13 will continue down that path but, according to a leak, giving the user more control over the resulting colors.
As found out by Android Police, Android 13 will have four ways to generate the colors of Material You, resulting in more or less saturated and varied colors, depending on the chosen mode. The colors are still automatic, but the difference is that the result varies depending on the method used.
Four ways to generate colors
Material You is a feature of Android 12 by which the system colors change depending on the wallpaper. It is for now exclusive to the Google Pixel with Android 12, but it should arrive in the future to layers of other brands. The current implementation pulls colors from the background and applies them to widgets, system interface elements, and some apps, but in Android 13 it looks like you’ll have more control over the result .
The same wallpaper generates different colors for the system depending on the mode used
Specifically, Android Police sources indicate that there will be four “themes” of Material You, which will generate different color patterns for the same wallpaper. This is a bit different from the Android 12 implementation, where you can choose between colors pulled from the background or basic colors. These will be the four themes:
TONAL_SPOT: the current setting of Android 12
VIBRANT: very similar to the current configuration, but with slightly more saturated generator colors
EXPRESSIVE: a wider range of colors , somewhat different from those present in the background
SPRITZ: black and white colors
The result is that, depending on the mode used, the colors that will be applied to Android will change slightly, despite being based on the same wallpaper. We still know what the interface will be like to choose between these themes, although in Android 12 there is already a settings panel to customize the colors in the Wallpaper and style. Seems like a good fit for this Android 13 setup.

This and other recent Android 13 news is based on an unofficial system image, so everything could change ahead of the final version. There is still no date for the first Developer Preview of Android 13, although it could arrive at any time in February.
