The mayor of the Libertador municipality, Jesús Araque, together with the Ferisol board, presented to the media of the city of Mérida, the program of activities, within the framework of the International Fair of Sun 2022.
The activities will begin with the pre-selection of the candidates who will participate in the election and coronation of the sovereign of the International Sun Fair in its 51st edition, which will take place on February 24.
The parishes of each municipality will carry out cultural, recreational and sports activities.
On the other hand, on February 20 it is planned the traditional parade of the Fair; in addition to the bullfighting poster, cavalcade and popular dancers, with the participation of national and international artists.
Other activities of interest, such as a gastronomic and entrepreneurial fair; colloquiums, exhibitions and concerts of pasodobles, will be held in the days prior to the Carnival dates.
In the sports field, the Andean Basketball League match will be resumed, which will not be carried out for a year and a half.
In this sense, Araque stressed that these events will be coordinated with the Board of Directors of Ferisol and the different commissions for each of the scheduled activities.
He emphasized that biosecurity measures will be complied with. “The health of the people of Merida is not above the fair,” he said.
In terms of security, Araque pointed out that next week the municipal Comprehensive Defense Body (ODI) will be sworn in , which will implement a security plan before, during and after the fair events.

Rehabilitation of the Libertador de Mérida municipality
Regarding the beautification and rehabilitation of spaces of the Andean capital, a patching and lighting plan is being developed for the critical points of the road, Araque said.
He said that there is a project for the activation of the traffic light systems, whose investment exceeds 250,000 dollars, for its total recovery.
“This project will be presented to the National Executive to be able to process the resources through the Federal Council of Government (CFG)”, reported the burgomaster.
