The future of Nimis is uncertain after the death of the creator Lars Vilk.
Höganäs municipality is now going out and wants support from the Ministry of Culture for that the work of art, which has become a popular tourist destination, should be allowed to remain.
The day after the accident where Lars Vilks and two policemen died in a traffic accident on the E4, visitors were on site at the artwork Nimis and left flowers in his memory.
The creation of wood, which Lars Vilks began to build in the early 1980s from driftwood and which consists of nailed planks and tree branches, has over the years become synonymous with its creator and is in day one of Skåne’s most popular tourist destinations.
But with his death, questions have been raised about Nimi’s future – as it needs maintenance.
Appeals to the government
Peter Schölander (M), chairman of the municipal board in Höganäs municipality, where Nimis is built, now turns to the Ministry of Culture and Minister of Culture and Democracy Amanda Lind for support in the matter.
The municipality wants the artwork to remain and has submitted an application to the Ministry of Culture to preserve the sculpture park Nimis and Arx.
– The place has a very high cultural value and for over 40 years, visitors have wandered to experience experience art that stands for signals freedom of expression and humility before nature. We want Nimis to live on, says Schölander in a press release.
