It has been like this for years, but for several generations the software for iPhones does not give the impression of being buttoned up to the last button. This is true, but it must be said loudly that the manufacturer takes care of regular fixes that go to even 5-year-old smartphones and there is no sluggishness in this matter. Old devices with each subsequent update receive new functions, interface elements and access to additional services. However, it is not as colorful as it might seem. It’s time to deal with the Apple iOS myths.

As a user who has cut his teeth on Apple hardware and appreciates its advantages, I have to admit that model upgrades for three, four or even five years are not as efficient and rich in new products, as for annuals or two-year-old models. First of all, some features are reserved only for new generations of smartphones. This is often due to hardware limitations, but not always. It is similar in the case of updating older devices, which, depending on the specific model, may contain even less than half of the solutions presented at subsequent Apple WWDC conferences. So the expectation that a 5-year-old smartphone will offer tools known from the annual model misses the point. This applies not only to functions, but also to certain interface elements. Old SoC and modest RAM cannot handle them.

Here we come to the performance issue. Apple, boasting about the long support of iPhones, does not mention the fact that systems that are several years old often do not allow a device with a newer iOS system to work quickly and efficiently. This does not mean that the smartphone will clip and the applications will load as long as on cheaper Android smartphones. It is still a satisfactory level, but we cannot talk about the mythical “honey optimization”. The fact is that there is above-average support in terms of security patches. In the world of the green robot, this is much worse. Summarizing: iOS is not as perfect as it is painted by Apple and orthodox ecosystem fans.
