The Apple Watch will get an interface revamp and more interactive widgets with watchOS 10, according to the latest report. The new interface will be similar to the Siri watch face that came with watchOS 4.
Apple to Focus on Widgets With watchOS 10
In Bloomberg’s Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman claims that Apple will be bringing back widgets as a prominent part of the watch’s interface. He adds that the new system will incorporate aspects of the iPhone’s widgets and some parts of the old watchOS Glances system.
This means that users will be able to scroll through a list of widgets instead of launching the apps. It will be similar to the Siri watch face, but it will come as an overlay for the watch face. Just like the iPhone’s widget stack, users will also be able to stack widgets for easy scrolling.
To recall, when the Apple Watch debuted back in 2015, the smartwatch comprised a home screen with app icons, watch faces, a frequent contacts list, and Glances, which is a widgets interface system. Over the years, Apple got rid of widgets and frequent contacts.
Apple Watch 9: What to Expect
Gurman states that watchOS 10 will be “the most significant change to the Apple Watch this year.” Additionally, the Digital crown may launch widgets instead of the home screen in the next version of watchOS.
“The move is an admission that the iPhone-like app format doesn’t always make sense on a watch – a place where you want as much information as possible with the least amount of poking around,” Gurman adds.
Since Apple already introduced a lot of hardware changes last year, this year’s Apple Watch lineup will be quite similar to its predecessors. The Apple Watch 9 may get a slightly updated S9 chip and a minor battery upgrade. Support for Bluetooth 5.3 is also expected.
According to the report, Apple will unveil watchOS 10 at WWDC in June. Additionally, the iPhone maker is expected to showcase iOS 17, macOS 14, Apple’s first AR headsetand the 15-inch MacBook Air at the developer conference.
