Apurímac: Quechua-speaking weaving mothers start virtual sale of their products

A group of Quechua-speaking mothers from the rural community of Ocobamba in Apurímac, reinvented themselves and began the virtual sale of woolen products and toys woven by themselves, under the guidance and support of Tambo Anansayocc, of the PAIS National Program belonging to the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis).

Known as ‘Makipurallaqtas’, the weaving mothers received virtual workshops at the Tambo to optimize the techniques millennia of hand knitting based on crochet during 2019.

The desire for improvement and entrepreneurship, allowed their fabrics allusive to Peruvian culture can be bought by the NGO Aldeas Infantiles and various private companies in Apurímac, as well as in some regions of Peru, allowing them to gradually improve the quality of life of their families.

As a result of the covid-19 pandemic, they had to stop the production of their fabrics in 2020 and far from being daunted, with the support of the Tambo Anansayocc manager, They were trained to enter the virtual world and promote their products through Facebook and WhatsApp , under the slogan adversity is also an opportunity for improvement and growth

Now, they are the ones who attend from their homes all the queries that come through the fan page Makipurallaqtas of Anansayocc – Ocobamba. After taking note of the orders, they go to the Tambo for the process of packing and shipping them, and guarantee that the client receives a quality wool fabric.

Today, this women’s association feels empowered with the sale of its products and the contribution they provide to the strengthening of egalitarian development and the role they play within their community located more than 3,200 m above sea level, in the province of Chincheros.

To complement the great work carried out by weaving mothers, the PAIS National Program facilitates access to talks on the importance of women and their work to build a society without distinctions, preserving cultural identity and encouraging entrepreneurship by more compatriots in rural communities with difficult access in the Sierra and jungle of Peru.
