ATBU reviews tuition fees – Newspot

The management of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi (ATBU) has finally released a new schedule for students ahead of the resumption of the 2022/2023 academic session.

Newspot recalls that the ATBU management and the student’s leadership have been at loggerheads over a purported hike in tuition fees, a development which led to the management dismissing earlier reports that it has increased tuition fees in the institution.

This is as the university’s management said that it is currently in consultation with stakeholders and will make information public as soon as it arrives at a decision.

In the latest update, the Director of Information and Public Relations of the university, Zailani Bappa, In a press statement issued on Saturday said the slight review is to allow poor students access to university education.

According to him, the latest update supersedes all controversy over the new registration fee in the last few days.

He said; “The university management has released a new registration fee template for returning and new students.

“Based on the new template, fresh MBBS students will pay N150,000, which is the highest. Similarly, returning MBBS students will pay N130,00.

“On the other hand, all returning students of other faculties and departments of the university will pay N69,700, which is the lowest. Fresh students will pay N79,700.

The statement added that fresh foreign students will pay a fee of N230,000 while returning foreign students will pay N183,000.

However, students who spoke with Daily Post revealed that there is a slight increase in the tuition fee for the new academic session.

They said fresh students of the university paid N63,000 while returning students paid N45,000 in previous academic sessions.

A 300 level of the Biochemistry Department, Victoria Olorunwa, however, said the new tuition fee is fair because the students are allowed to pay twice.
