KOEI TECMO and GUST Studios have announced a new chapter in the Atelier series: Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream . The last installment in the series follows the beloved alchemist, Sophie Neuenmuller , shortly after her adventures in Atelier Sophie of 2016: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book. The new title is currently in development for the Switch, PS4 and PC, and its release is scheduled for February 25, 2022 in Europe . A new trailer was released alongside the announcement today, offering a first look at the latest installment in the Atelier series.
Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream continues the story of the many adventures of Sophie and Plachta . After leaving Kirchen Bell, Sophie’s hometown, the duo discover a gigantic tree identical to the one Plachta had seen in a dream. As they approach, a mysterious vortex pulls them inside . Sophie wakes up alone in a curious new world called Erde Wiege , and it doesn’t take long for her to hear about an alchemist named Plachta who lives on the outskirts of town. . When Sophie arrives at the workshop, she meets a young alchemy enthusiast named Plachta, and even though the alchemist has the same name as her friend, she does not recognize Sophie. What other surprises await Sophie during this trip? Over the course of the adventure, Sophie meets a budding alchemist, Ramizel Erlenmeyer, who readily agrees to help her in case of need. The storytelling takes place elegantly in a charming new visual style that combines the art of the Mysterious sub-series with the high-quality graphics and animation of Atelier Ryza 2 : Lost Legends and the Secret Fairy of 2021.
During her journey to find her missing friend, Sophie will have to fight the many monsters that inhabit the lands of Erde Wiege. As soon as players encounter an enemy in the field, combat begins instantly with no load times or separate screens – a first in the series – allowing battles to flow smoothly. Additionally, Battle Groups are now made up of six members, three in the front and three in the rear, to form two teams that cooperate in turn-based battles. This new combat system opens the way for a wide range of exciting combat strategies that players can use to defeat their enemies.
As in previous installments of the Workshop series, alchemy plays an important role in Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream . The game relies on the panel synthesis system featured in the Mysterious sub-series, where materials are placed in the locations of the panels to create new items. The game allows budding alchemists and veterans to synthesize items in a way that suits them with two different types of panels: regular panels make it easier to create items, while restricted panels are more complex to master but allow you to synthesize objects with more powerful effects.
