Already in very bad shape and unable to show itself at the level on the European scene as national, Barcelona received a real lesson in realism from Atlético de Madrid. In two shots on target and 45 short minutes, Thomas Lemar and Luis Suárez indeed folded the meeting.

Atlético de Madrid 2-0 Barcelona
Goals: Lemar (23 e ) and Suárez (44 e )
Now it’s (much) easier to beat big FC Barcelona than small teams. When we call ourselves Atlético de Madrid, anyway. This is the conclusion of the “shock” of this Saturday evening counting for the eighth day of La Liga, in which the Colchoneros were favorites and in which they have quietly imposed themselves. Because against the Catalans, the Matelassiers duo Lemar-Suárez (a goal and an assist each) only needed a half to fold the meeting. Second, the locals push their disappointing opponents (tenths) at the same time as Koeman.
Griezmann no, Lemar yes
23 e minute, at the Wanda Metropolitano. After an acceleration from Félix and a deep transmission from Suárez, Lemar’s left paw applies to deposit the leather in Ter Stegen’s skylight. A deserved opening scoring, so much the French hurt since the kick-off which Griezmann assists from the substitutes’ bench. Before the goal, the former Monegasque indeed sends several warnings to Barcelona. A strike in the small net, for example. Or even an uncontrolled delivery for Felix, who cannot find the frame. Opposite, the Catalans are struggling to react despite possession of the ball largely in their favor. Coutinho tries all the same in a half-volley from the sixteen meters, but this attempt is largely insufficient to seriously worry Atlético d’Oblak. It is even Suárez who, already close to scoring the second achievement of the game with a shot licking the outside post, reshapes the nets on an assist from … Lemar.
Final changes, for Koeman
Always so desperate, Barcelona are back from the locker room with substitute Roberto González. Without success. On the Atlético side, Trippier takes the place of De Paul … To further strengthen the rear bases and secure the score. A score protected by Oblak, efficient and perfect in front of Coutinho. At the other end of the pitch, Ter Stegen avoids humiliation as Felix shines. The following ? Replacements that do not change much to the appearance of the match (entries from Fati, De Jong or Puig …), others accompanied by heavy applause (exits from Suárez and Félix, for Griezmann and Correa … ) and the feeling that Koeman will never return to the Barcelona bench. Of course, Madrid shines with its realism and is sublimated by its driving players. But this is as much a convincing victory of the Colchoneros than a sorry defeat for the Catalans.
Atlético de Madrid (5-3-2): Oblak – Llorente, Savić, Giménez, Hermoso (Felipe, 82 e ), Carrasco (Lodi, 82 e )) – De Paul (Trippier, 46 e ), Koke, Lemar – Suárez (Griezmann, 72 e ), Félix (Correa, 72 e ). Coach: Simeone.
