The Cajamarca region is the first in the country to issue an electronic driver’s license, which has the same validity as the physical license and will facilitate the processing of users who will save time and money.
Decentralization
As part of the decentralization process, the MTC will become a facilitator for the regions to develop autonomous management. “We are going to guide this self-management work of regional and local governments,” he remarked. “If we work as a team: national, regional and local government, distributing powers and respecting spaces, we could achieve many things for the benefit of the population, largely eradicating the corruption that has become a custom in State agencies,” he said. Minister Silva said that they will soon announce a national congress on driver education, which will go hand in hand with the work of modernizing driver’s licenses ; as well as training and education processes for wheel workers. Within the process – he added – the Superintendency of Land Transportation of People, Cargo and Merchandise (Sutran) will be declared in reorganization to improve the work of control and supervision. “The Sutran must have a preventive and educational function,” he added. Minister Silva pointed out that the execution of programmed works continues with visits to the regions to unlock the works that present problems. “We are generating new projects. By 2022 we have a program to build 1,185 bridges in remote areas to close connectivity gaps ”, he said.
Connectivity
The governor of Cajamarca, Mesías Guevara, highlighted the joint work with the MTC focused on three types of connectivity: road, air and digital. On the road issue, for example, there was an impact on the modernization of the Cajamarca and Jaén airports so that they have international status ; in addition to promoting interregional flights from Cajamarca to Chachapoyas (Amazonas), Chiclayo (Lambayeque) and Trujillo (La Libertad). The implementation of free internet in this North Andean region will have an impact on agriculture, livestock, commerce, education and health. Regarding the electronic driver’s license, Guevara indicated that hopes to expand this service for motorcycles and motorcycle taxis; for this, he invited the mayors to work together on this proposal.
