Atwoli’s Advice to Ruto After Firing Entire Cabinet

The Secretary General of the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU), Francis Atwoli on Thursday called on President William Ruto to prioritize national unity and inclusivity when appointing a new cabinet.

In a statement, Atwoli commended the Head of State for his bold decision to dismiss all his cabinet secretaries stating the move marked a significant step for the much-needed rebirth.

The COTU boss exuded confidence in Ruto, stating that with a renewed and united cabinet, the nation would be able to overcome its current challenges.

According to Atwoli, the new cabinet should reflect the diverse fabric of Kenya’s society and ensure that it is all-inclusive and broadly representative.

He also noted Ruto’s bold and decisive move was in line with the modern approach to addressing the grievances and aspirations of the Kenyan people.

“The president has our full support as workers as he takes this momentous step to rebuild and strengthen our beloved country,” Atwoli stated.

“It is within the time for the President to have a team that not only defends the policies of the government but also effectively articulates the needs and priorities of the nation,” he added.

Atwoli disclosed that Kenya’s current challenges required a cabinet that was composed of competent and experienced individuals who were committed to serving the interests of all.

According to the trade unionist, Kenyans needed a CS who would answer telephone calls from members of the public for accountability purposes and
consultations.

Francis Atwoli’s sentiments come hardly an hour after President Ruto overhauled his cabinet except for his deputy and the Prime Cabinet Secretary who also doubles as the Foreign Affairs minister.

While addressing the press at State House in Nairobi, Ruto stated the move was in line with the demands made by Kenyans during the recent nationwide demonstrations.

“Upon reflection and listening keenly to what the people of Kenya have said and after holistic appraisal of the performance of my Cabinet and its achievements and challenges,” Ruto announced.

“I have decided to dismiss with immediate effect all the Cabinet Secretaries and the Attorney-General from the Cabinet of the Republic of Kenya except the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs,” he added.
