Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz is being investigated for bribery. Searches at the party headquarters

Austrian anti-corruption prosecutors searched the offices of Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, his close advisers and his party’s headquarters in Vienna on Wednesday morning.

According to the publication Die Presse , on Wednesday morning, at the office of the Federal Chancellor and the headquarters of the Austrian People’s Party, led by Kurz, searches were carried out on his spokesman Johannes Frischmann, the head of press relations Gerald Fleischmann and councilor Stefan Steiner.

The investigation is being carried out in a criminal case related to the corruption of the Österreich newspaper for the publication of pro-party polls, the publication states.

Die Presse claims that the prosecutor’s office is investigating a bribery and corruption case in relation to the persons mentioned, as well as the former Minister of the Family, researcher of public opinion Sophie Karmasin, researcher of public opinion Sabine Bainshab, media group Österreich. The chancellor is suspected of complicity, the newspaper writes.

According to a statement by Deputy Secretary General Gaby Schwarz, the searches are aimed at “affecting the image of the People’s Party and Sebastian Kurz” . Schwarz claims that it is “a political staging to get the effect of a show.” Kurz, who is at the EU summit in Slovenia, did not comment on these events.
