Back to classrooms in Cienfuegos

When Marlon Arbelay Pérez walked through the door of his school, pre-university student Martin Díhigo was certain that he would finally resume his life plan: enter the Pedagogical University.

After a long period of confinement, returning to the classroom is what everyone expected. Magalis Sosa, professor of Mathematics at the Jorge Agostini Sports Initiation School (EIDE), assured that the teaching staff also looked forward to this moment. “We were looking forward to sharing with them, seeing them finish this stage and join the university, which is what most aspire to.”

Almost at the end of their time at the Pre-University Vocational Institute of Exact Sciences (IPVCE) Carlos Roloff, Pedro Oscar Parra affirmed that although the pandemic stopped all things, it is important to resume studies. “I want to study Medicine.”

In Cienfuegos, more than 2,800 students of terminal, twelfth and third year degrees of technical education and pedagogical school, were incorporated into the classrooms on October 4. The conditions are created.

For José Oliver Sabatés, director of the Martín Díhigo high school, the most important thing is the completion of the teachers. “We have full teaching coverage in Mathematics, Spanish and History, which are fundamental subjects that will be evaluated as of February 28.”

The center prepares the 48 IPVCE students, while their school is getting ready to receive them.

“At the end of the previous week they gave us the IPVCE again, which was as an isolation center, and the workers are already there creating the conditions to take over the twelfth grade students next week, ”said Leonel Meneses, provincial director of Education.

it has been more intense in those centers where isolation centers were established. The professors of the Polytechnic 5 de Septiembre participated, along with doctors, nurses and epidemiologists, in the disinfection of the school.

“Immediately after the last medical discharge We proceeded to disinfect the bedrooms, the kitchen, and the surrounding areas; we organize several days of sanitation ”, recalls its director. Today 202 students finish their training here.

Something similar happened at the EIDE in Cienfuegos. “We had several days of fumigation, all the walls were flushed, they were sanitized with chlorine and the mattresses were changed, so that there is not the slightest possibility of contagion for our students,” says Magalis Sosa. In this center, the teaching staff was also in charge of repairing the dormitories.

In the province, 68 educational institutions welcomed the restart of the school year in the first stage. The assurances include bibliography, furniture, television and computer media and strict compliance with sanitary hygiene measures.

To Marlon, Pedro Oscar and many others, the The emotion of being reunited, in friendship and study, fills their chests, even if they have to settle for a clash of fists as a greeting and renounce the very Cuban habit of kissing to move on.
