Bali Artificial Reef Thrives In Lockdown

Siddhartha Oceanfront Resort & Spa has announced that its house reef project has been a success and has thrived over the previous year in lockdown.

A 100-meter artificial reef was added during the lockdown as an extension to the house reef. The development of the area known as Kubu Marine Park is a labor of love for resort owners and directors Stefan Brand and Barbara Ebel.

While the reef typically takes time to grow, they noted that the artificial reef has thrived with the restriction of divers due to the pandemic. Commenting on the work, Ebel said:

“Some corals that we didn’t think would even work on the reef have flourished during recent times. Just this month we spotted a coral that we didn’t think would take and it’s already grown over a square meter.”

While Brand described the care taken with the project:

“We never wanted to break anything to create something new so the project has taken a long time to get to the stage where it is now.”

The resort is planning to reopen in April 2022, restrictions permitting. To celebrate the reopening and the success of the reef project has launched two new diving and snorkeling packages.
