A national team-qualified former bandy profile is sentenced to two months in prison for aggravated drunk driving, threats against an official and violent resistance in western Sweden.
According to the verdict, the man threatened the intervening police officers with the words:
– I’ll look up your names and kill you.
The incident took place in western Sweden on a night in the middle of September last year.
The police then received an alarm that a heavily drunk man was driving on his way with his car. A moment later, the police found the car on the side of the road – with the suspect sleeping in the back seat.
The man, who is a former bandy player with merits from games at the highest level in Sweden and in the national team, is now convicted of aggravated drunk driving.
The test results showed over 2 per mille ethanol in the blood.
– It was not me who drove the car, the bandy profile has said in interrogation.
He has also said that he drank most of the alcohol after the car stopped, but the district court judges that it was an afterthought.
Sentenced to prison
The man has stated that he had drunk five or six drinks and three or four strong beers during the evening, but also that he “kept track of things”. When the police arrived at the car, the bandy profile, as he puts it, was “stressed by the situation”.
– I will look up your names and kill you, he will have told the intervening police on the spot.
Therefore he is convicted of threatening an official.
He is also convicted of violent resistance after sitting down as a physical defense against the police when he was to be put in the police car to go with a body search.
The sentence will be two months imprisonment.
“Apologize”
The bandy profile, who denied the crime, has said in interrogation:
– I fell asleep and woke up when the police came and hit the window. At first I thought someone was going to hit the box. Then I saw that it was the police. The police shouted several times to “open the door otherwise I will hit the window”. I was looking for the car key. I found the key and opened the door. When I opened the door, they tore me out of the car.
– It was not a normal situation. He handcuffed me. He was very brutal to me. It was not a fun experience when I got out of the car. It could have been handled in a different way. It was very violent action by the police. I would just stand outside the car. I really apologize for expressing myself in this way.
