Some 15,000 fans gathered in Seoul on Thursday for the first live concert in the city by boy band Bangtan Boys, also known as BTS, in more than two years, since the coronavirus pandemic began.
The concert’s 67,000-seat venue, Jamsil Olympic Stadium, was limited to only 23 percent of capacity and spectators were not allowed to shout or chant. Fans instead brought gadgets like clappers to cheer for their idols.
The sound they made was like another musical instrument, echoing through the concert venue. But shouting was heard outside, as crowds of fans who were unable to enter due to the limited admission slots thronged the streets in front of the venue and remained until the show ended.
BTS responded with a brilliant performance of medleys of their hit songs.
They will stage two more concerts over the weekend, which will be livestreamed for fans all around the world.
